RE: Didge Ram 2500, brake controller location?

I don't know if the dash is the same for 2003, but I took out the ash tray and mounted it in the hole. It's easy to reach, and if I want to someday remove it to sell the truck, the ash tray snaps right back in leaving no visible holes.
I did think about the knee bolster, but I disagree that it would take a "horrific" accident to hurt your knee. The knee is a very delicate joint. Even in a low speed fender bender if the corner of the Prodigy hits up under your knee cap, you could have knee problems for the rest of your life.

RE: How hard is it to change the gears on an SUV??

If lugging on hills is the problem, no need to go to all the expense of changing axle gears, just down-shift the transmission. Higher axle ratios help with getting a load started from a stop. Because there is no gear lower than first. But if you are going up a hill in, say, third gear, then shifting to second will allow the engine to run faster, where it makes more power. It's the total (transmission * axle) gear ratio that matters.

RE: Dogs in Crates

Crate trained dogs love their crates. But, isn't there room inside your tent for the crate?

RE: Tire Pressure for Towing my Trailer

Check the max pressure on the wheels (usually stamped or cast on the inside). On some 1/2 tons it's 50 psi.

RE: hydrogen generators: diesel

I look at it this way.
No energy conversion is 100% efficient. In the case of these mayonnaise jar hydrogen generators it goes:
chemical (gas or diesel) --> mechanical (engine turning) --> electrical (alternator) --> chemical (hydrogen) --> mechanical again.
By the time you get back to mechanical to actually move the truck, you've put more energy in than you get out.
The trucker was probably trying to convince himself that he hadn't been taken.
Also, how come Big Oil is so good at "hiding" these something-for-nothing schemes, but they can't hide the real threats to their future dominance like nuclear, wind, solar, hybrids, bio-fuels, etc, etc.

RE: What is this?

Ever see the insurance add where the guy is trying to figure out what the switch on his wall does, while his neighbor's garage door is going up and down smashing her car. LOL.
But seriously, could it be for a formally installed air compressor for load leveler shocks? (I don't know, Do class A's ever have a need for load levelers???)

RE: Great Reviews - Bad Parks!

Good point. You also have to be careful of the bad reviews, because some of them are posted by people who tend to be "whiners". I find the feature where you can look at the person's other reviews to be useful. Then you can discount reviewers who hate every campground.

RE: Why a Hybrid?

I love the sound of rain on canvas when in bed. (Although I prefer it NOT rain during the day when I'm camping!)
Besides, my truck can't tow anything bigger. (with the bikes and camping food/gear I'm right at the 15,000 # GCVW limit.)
Never had any leaks. (But it's only 2 seasons old.)

RE: someone tried to take my rig...

Sounds like a fishy story to me. Mainly because the story doesn't explain a bent hitch! I bet one of the yard guys bent it while moving it and that's the story he told his boss.

But is there any hope for poor slobs like me? I paid good money for a laptop last year that is all but useless because of that lame excuse for an operating system. And believe it or not, none of my calls to Calcutta have helped!

RE: Hitch capacity

You're fine, the safety margin is built-in to the ratings.
I could be wrong, but I think most people buy more capacity than needed because they want to leave their options open for future upgrades.

RE: Strange Noise While Camping

Click-hum-click is the typical sound of an automatic thermal overload protection circuit breaker. For example, if an electric motor is stuck it draws very high current (hums). In a few seconds the breaker heats up and trips (click). 20-30 min later, the breaker cools off enough to reset (click), and the cycle starts again.
Just a thought, do you have an electric slide near the noise?

RE: adjusting the prodigy brake controler Please HELP!!!!

It sounds like you have the voltage set correctly. So now you can tweek it to your own comfort. Don't worry too much, it's not an exact science! Have you experimented with the boost setting? You won't feel much from the trailer brakes with boost set to off, because the TV brakes will always be leading (applying first). Boost lets the trailer brakes lead the TV a little bit so you feel them working. For my 7000 pound trailer I like the boost on 2 in the hills, but I find the extra tugging is annoying on the flats so I set it to 1.

I vote for Negative. Car and Truck service manuals always say to disconnect the negative terminal before working on the vehicle.

RE: Electrical nomenclature question

the poles are not always on the outside of the switch.. some are internal
You're right. I stand corrected.
A 4-way could be (and probably is) made by cross strapping the switched poles of a DPDT internally.

RE: Electrical nomenclature question

A 3-way switch is called 3-way in electrician nomenclature because it has 3 connections (the ground screw doesn't count). In electronics it's called a SPDT.
A 4-way has 4 connections. It is not a DPDT (which would have 6 connections).

RE: Gas or diesel in 2008?

What is it about "diesel" horsepower that is somehow more desirable than "gas" horsepower for towing?
First despite what you read on this forum, horsepower does not come in different flavors, it is a standard unit of measure. The difference is in the RPM where each engine makes maximum power. The diesels make power at lower RPM's. This helps in two ways. The most important, and what towing limits are primarily based on, is the ability to get a load moving from a dead stop. Low RPM power makes the diesel better at this. Second is driver comfort. A lot of drivers think a gas engine is "straining" at high RPM, when in fact high RPM's are where (modern) gassers love to run.
